Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has been leading Mental Health Awareness Week. Bringing the UK together to focus on good mental health. The theme for 2025 is Community. Emphasising the importance of social connections and support systems for mental health and well-being, and using this week to celebrate the power and importance of community.
What is a community?
- People who live in the same geographical area.
- A network of supportive people.
- Groups formed around shared interests, values, beliefs or cultural identities.
How does community benefit your mental health?
Renewable Being a part of a community can make life feel more meaningful and enjoyable, helping individuals to feel happier, safer and improve our mental health. Community environments are important for our mental health and wellbeing. They can reduce the feeling of isolation, build a sense of belonging, provide us with a purpose, reduce symptoms of mental health issues and ease psychological distress.
What is Triangle doing to support community?
This profound and fast-moving transition to renewable energy is not just an environmental necessity – it is an economic revolution. As a company we take pride in knowing we provide our employees with the best community filled space within a positive environment. We encourage volunteering activities throughout the year that our employees can take park in, this includes the National Literacy Trust, Martha Trust and Surviving Christmas. As well as this, our internal social committee are always planning exciting events for our staff members. We have recently hosted two quiz nights, brining together members of the company together to enjoy a fun filled evening. Departments within Triangle show a true community and team spirit atmosphere by going out for meals to spend time and build relationships outside of the work environments as well as doing fun games and activities within the working day such as Easter Egg gift swapping and secret Santa.
In honour of Mental Health Awareness week, Triangle’s social committee have organised a dog walk at our local park on the 15th May. Encouraging the sense of community as well as aiding in better mental and physical well-being, both enormous contributors to our overall mental health.
How to get involved in your community?
- Find like-minded people: Look for groups that match your interests, beliefs, faiths or values as it’s easier to start conversation. Connecting with a variety of different people can help you learn and grown.
- Get Outdoors: Spending time outdoors can help you move more, increase your physical and mental health. Opening up chances for casual social interactions.
- Show Kindness to Others: Simple acts of kindness can increase the feeling of belonging. Chatting with your neighbours, greeting people at a local café. Small acts of kindness can make you feel more connected and spread positively.
- Become Part of an Online Community: For some, in-person socialising can be difficult. Online communities can be a great alternative, there are many forms such as; mental health forums and social media groups.
- Volunteering or Give to a Charity: Helping others can build a sense of community and give you purpose. Volunteering at food banks, local charity shops or animal centres can lower your stress and make you feel happier.
