Technical & Compliance Manager

The Technical & Compliance Manager is the company’s lead authority on technical compliance, regulatory coordination, and BSR Principle Designer duties across retrofit projects.

The role is responsible for ensuring design work, technical submissions, and project delivery comply with Building Regulations, fire safety requirements, and Gateway processes. Acting as a senior technical lead, the position requires someone capable of representing the business externally with Building Control, fire engineers, clients, contractors, and regulators, while producing technically robust and defensible compliance solutions and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Compliance Manager 

  • Act as the primary point of contact for technical and compliance queries on retrofit projects.
  • Provide technical guidance on Building Regulations, fire safety, and compliance strategies.
  • Produce and review technical submissions, reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Manage compliance evidence and maintain accurate project records. 
  • Defend technical decisions, unusual details and alternative compliance routes with regulators and stakeholders.
  • Support company leadership on technical risks, compliance strategy, and best practice. 

BSR Principal Designer Duties

Where appointed as BSR Principle Designer, responsibilities include:

  • Planning, managing, and monitoring design work.
  • Coordinating all design-related compliance matters.
  • Ensuring design work complies with Building Regulations and safety standards.
  • Managing design information throughout the project lifecycle. 
  • Liaising with the Principle Contractor and wider design team.
  • Acting as the main point of contact with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Preparing and coordinating Gateway 1-3 submissions and associated documentation.
  • Completing construction phase inspections at agreed intervals.

Stakeholder & Regulatory Engagement

  • Represent the business professionally with Building Control, fire engineers, clients, contractors, and regulators.
  • Lead technical discussions and communicate complex compliance matters clearly and effectively.
  • Build strong working relationships with project teams and external authorities.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, fire safety, retrofit projects, and Gateway processes.
  • Experience fulfilling or supporting Principle Designer duties.
  • Ability to produce technically defensible documentation and compliance submissions.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • Comfortable operating as part of the company leadership structure and representing the business externally.
